Maipú Chile
San Luís Primary School

Growing two churches for 25 years   For 25 years Chilean nationals have ministered in many areas of the church as part of the IAM team in Maipú, outside of Santiago chile. From El Encuentro, a strong mother church and established preschool, a second church was formed in 1991 in San Luís. San Luís has tremendous social, economic and spiritual needs. Drug use, crime and prostitution are high. A weekly children's feeding program has served families, from which the church has steadily grown.

Partnering with U.S. teams   With the financial support and dedication of U.S. churches and teams over the past decade, the church property has been
purchased from the municipality of Maipú. Teams have provided construction funds and helped build a kitchen, bathroom, storage room, and three classrooms over several years. A preschool for 40 kids was founded in March 2003.

Seizing the moment for a school   The church's 15-year presence and solid ministry in San Luís have had a tremendous impact in the community. The nationals have earned the respect of families and the municipality for their work. Seizing the opportunity and favorable community response, the IAM team built a Christian primary school in San Luís, which has been running since March 2004, now serving 200 children.

San Luís School will serve the community well for several reasons: (1) the school is projected to be self-supporting within three years; (2) the church will have access to children and families through Christian education and sharing the Gospel; (3) nationals will be involved in the leadership of the school from the beginning; and (4) the Saturday feeding program could be expanded to include serving meals throughout the week.

Financing the vision: $150,000   Phase I, paid for through loaned funds allocated to other projects, cost $50,000. Funds are needed to reimburse these budgets, thus freeing the money up for other vital projects. San Luís School currently serves 200 children in Kindergarten through fourth grade. Future construction will also include a playground, a multi-purpose room, and a ball field. Additional grades would be added each year, eventually serving youth up to eighth grade. Future phases could total $150,000 in material and construction costs.
