Lautaro - Chile
Christian Center of Integrated Development

Developing the community of Lautaro   The work established in Lautaro, Chile, began with one Mapuche family in 2000. Today, more than 100 people are directly related with the project, representing 28 families. In the rural sector another 45 Mapuche families have directly benefited from the construction of greenhouses and donations of plastic and seeds. In medical clinics and other
activities, more than 400 families have directly benefited. Missionaries have taught harvesting methods, built greenhouses, donated seeds and helped market these products. The families strive to overcome poverty and enjoy a better quality of life.

IAM hopes to build a Christian Center of Integrated Development in Lautaro to help residents reach their educational potential, be a support in the community and help families overcome the cycle of poverty. The aim is support the rural Mapuche so that they can sustain themselves spiritually and financially and maintain good health.

Constructing a Christian center   With the financial help of foreign churches and from those who directly benefit, IAM has purchased land measuring 40,000 square meters. Several projects will be built in future phases, including a vocational training center, an auditorium and classrooms, a boarding school, a recreation center / park, a gymnasium, a health center and a school of missions.

Financing the vision: $75,000   The local church counts on support from members, support from outside churches and national and international, state subsidies and grants. The benefit of self-financing is the eligibility for educational grants, state funds and tuition. To generate more resources, IAM is considering building storefronts for commercial businesses to be rented as well as growing and selling agricultural products. For the first phase, IAM must enclose the entire piece of land and construct a gym. The church could then be moved and begin offering recreational and social activities. The estimated cost of the first phase is $75,000.
